Opel cars are manufactured by Adam Opel GmbH, a division of General Motors. The Opel company was set up in 1863 and began to make cars in 1899. Before that the Opel company made sewing machines and bicycles. In 1929 General Motors acquired the Opel company. The first car produced was the Patent Motor Car and the next early model was the Opel-Darracq.
The Opel logo is a lightning bolt. This is a reference to the Opel blitz truck. The German word "blitz" translates as lightning or flash.
